BODY BREAK

This class is a part of our Body & Mind Program at Dance Alive, where we take special care to stretch, strengthen, and connect with both our bodies and our minds. Our Body & Mind services teach you how to develop an empowered mindset by building the knowledge and confidence necessary to make your own decisions about health and wellness instead of simply following outside influences. When you learn to listen to your body cues and respond to what it needs, you become an unstoppable force in your pursuit of dance, athletics, or just general life!

BODY BREAK is our combined body-care class, where we cycle between different focuses each week:

STRETCH IT OUT – Active flexibility training & movement techniques

PUMP IT UP – Strengthening exercises & cardiovascular training

COOL IT DOWN – Massage ball rolling & breathwork for release & restoration

This class includes elements from Yoga, Pilates, Functional Range Conditioning, Progressive Ballet Technique, Neurokinetic Therapy, Sugarfoot Therapy, The Roll Model Method, Sports Science & Conditioning, and more. We pride ourselves on staying up-to-date on the current best practices, while also retaining tried & true methods of bodywork & fitness training. We also pride ourselves on HAVING FUN, and although we work very hard to build the content for this class, we don’t take ourselves very seriously once we’re there! Play & community is such an important part of our studio, and those values shine through in this class. Come try some hard things, learn to listen to your body, and laugh with friends each week as we implement a regular practice of self-care and self-improvement!

Join us from Home!

In our efforts to promote accessibility, we are proud to offer this class in a hybrid format, where students can join in-person at the studio OR through Zoom from home! Please give us at least 24 hours notice if you plan to join via Zoom so that we can properly prepare you with at-home props & options.

PREPARE FOR CLASS

The Basics

First Time?

Where to Buy

*REGARDING GENDER*

HAIR
Anything loosely off the face. We sometimes spend time laying down in this class, so be prepared to move your hair around as it feels comfortable to do so.

CLOTHES
Anything comfortable and easy to move (and breathe!) in. There are sometimes cardio elements in this class, so you may want to choose clothing you can easily jump and run in without needing to fix.

SHOES
This class cycles through different focuses every week. Barefeet or socks are appropriate for all classes, but some students prefer to wear indoor runners to PUMP IT UP classes. Please make sure any footwear is clean and for INDOOR USE ONLY.

OTHER EQUIPMENT
We sometimes use simple props in this class to help with proper movement for exercises. If you’re joining in person, everything will be provided for you, though you may bring your own yoga mat if you prefer. If you’re joining from home, it’s a good idea to try and have as many of the following items handy:

โ€ข Yoga/Pilates mat
โ€ข Theraband (light/medium strength)
โ€ข Massage balls (2 with a sock to hold them together)
โ€ข 2lb weighted balls (can of soup or full water bottles can replace these)
โ€ข Small stability ball (2-3 pillows can replace this)
โ€ข Large exercise ball (can be borrowed from studio with advance notice)

We have all the props we use in class available for purchase through the studio. Please contact us if you have any questions about equipment purchases!
